Senior Accountant

Senior Accountant Position - Gladney Center for Adoption

As a member of the Financial Operations team (FinOps), you will be a part of transforming Accounting to a Business Partner role by being both strategic and tactical, and working closely with the Controller, Chief Financial Officer and Internal Clients.

You will be responsible for helping to ensure a smooth monthly close process, including account reviews and reconciliations, adjusting entries, report production, development and presentation of financial and operational insights, and backing up the organization’s Controller in the execution of her duties.

The ability to build trusted relationships, exercise good judgment and work effectively across the organizational matrix and viewing Finance as a service organization are keys to success. Ability to assess, solve problems, anticipate, and take appropriate action is required, along with a strong knowledge of accounting principles.

Responsibilities include:

  • Help to define and implement a strong monthly close and reporting process across the FinOps organization.
  • Be key point of contact for organization staff, whether it’s a point of escalation or primary point of contact for finance-related matters.
  • Produce well-documented, timely and accurate work product, including account reconciliations, journal entries, accounting reviews and recurring and ad-hoc reporting.
  • Work as a key leader in the organization, displaying and continuing to develop senior-level leadership competencies.
  • Effectively communicate thoughts and interpretation of financial data to all levels within the organization.
  • Participate in, and at times, lead process improvement projects to improve efficiencies, expand capabilities and improve overall service levels to the organization.
  • Manage external reporting, as needed.
  • Help to ensure timely and accurate processing and related duties related to Payroll.
  • Supports organizational effectiveness activities including leadership development, change management.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3 years’ work experience in an Accounting and/or Financial Analysis role.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead processes and produce timely, accurate work product.
  • Experience in payroll and benefits
  • Hands on experience in complex organizations
  • Proficiency in automated accounting systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Product Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a Non-Profit accounting
  • Proficiency with SAGE Accounting products (MIP specifically)
  • Experience working with external auditors.
  • Strong PowerPoint skills
  • Strong Excel Skills
  • Ability to work in teams and collaborate effectively.
  • Strong ability to take the initiative and drive for results.
  • Time management skills that enable on-time project delivery.
