Post Adoption Specialist

The primary responsibility of a Post Adoption Specialist is to manage continuing services to birth parents, adoptive parents, adoptive families and adult adoptees regarding a wide variety of adoption related issues that may occur following adoption.  This position provides services on an individual and family basis, through multiple forms of media which includes crisis intervention, clinical rapport building and support, assessments of risk and protective factors, consultation, counseling, discovery and sharing of resources, case management, file updates and follow-up services.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain ongoing system of availability to adoptive parents, adoptive families, adoptees, birth parents and their families who are in contact with Post Adoption Department for post adoption services.
  • Ensure appropriate and timely responses to requests for services through the most appropriate form of media.
  • Provide crisis support.
  • Develop rapport and provide counseling/intervention/consultation services.
  • Assess families for current functioning including risk and protective factors.
  • Determine and share appropriate resources for clients.
  • Provide follow-up services to families who have received services to determine further needs or successful service.
  • Personally maintain accurate and appropriate documentation of Post Adoption contacts and services with adult adoptees and their families in appropriate record keeping systems. (SUGAR)
  • Oversee compliance with Post Adoption aspects of Section 162.006, 162.018 and 162.022 of the Texas Family Code to determine eligibility of records requests.
  • Oversee the release of records at the request of legally entitled persons.
  • Attend all meetings related to the position, including but not limited to monthly staff meetings, weekly post adoption meetings, legal meetings, departmental meetings and impromptu meetings.
  • Provide staff with clinical insight, consultation and support regarding adoptive cases from a post adoption perspective.
  • Consult with in-house legal counsel in situations needing legal clarification or in which there might be legal ramifications for the agency.
  • Participate in agency seminars and trainings as appropriate.
  • Ensure 20 clock hours of training is obtained annually to comply with applicable licensing standards.
  • Support family trainings, social networking and outreach services through all forms of media and involvement.
  • Maintain basic knowledge of community referral sources for support services.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field required; master’s degree in social work or related field strongly preferred.
  • LPC, LMFT, or LCSW in the State of Texas preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of Social Work experience.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, PowerPoint and Excel; Microsoft Teams, and other digital media.
