Hosting Program

Opening doors for children through safe hosting, advocacy, and adoption.

FAQs

What is the Hosting Program?

The Hosting Program brings a select number of children from Colombia, Taiwan, Ecuador to the U.S. each summer for a short stay with host families. During their visit, children experience daily family life and cultural activities while Gladney staff learn more about each child to strengthen advocacy for their adoption.

Is the Hosting Program a student exchange program?

No. This is not a student exchange program. Children who participate are living in orphanages in their home countries and are waiting to be adopted. Hosting provides them with the opportunity to be known, loved, and advocated for — not to study abroad or participate in a cultural exchange.

How are children matched with host families?

Children are matched with families based on the family’s Hague compliant home study, availability, and preferences (such as age or gender). Our team also considers the child’s personality, needs, and interests to create the best fit for both the child and the family.

Do families need to be pursuing adoption to host?

No. Hosting does not require a commitment to adoption. Families may participate simply to open their home and provide an important experience for a child. That said, many hosting experiences do lead to adoption.

What support does Gladney provide to host families?

Gladney’s International Team walks with families every step of the way. We provide:

  • A Hague compliant home study and training
  • Pre-trip orientation
  • Guidance on cultural adjustment
  • Ongoing support during the child’s stay
  • Clear next steps if families choose to pursue adoption afterward

What is expected of host families?

Host families provide a safe, nurturing environment where children can experience everyday family life. This includes meals, transportation to group activities, and participation in daily routines. Families are not expected to plan elaborate outings — the focus is on ordinary family experiences.

How long does hosting last?

The program usually lasts 2–4 weeks during the summer, depending on travel schedules.

Does hosting guarantee adoption?

No. Hosting is not an adoption placement. However, it creates a unique opportunity for children and families to connect, and for children to be better understood and advocated for within the adoption community.

Where is the program available?

Currently, families in Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Missouri, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and Texas may apply to host.
