Senior Accountant Position - Gladney Center for Adoption

The Controller will be responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of the organization, including accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, and compliance. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with a strong background in non-profit financial management and a passion for supporting our mission through effective financial stewardship.

Responsibilities include:

Financial Management:

  • Manage all accounting functions, including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, and payroll.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of financial transactions and reconciliation of accounts.
  • Oversee preparation and maintenance of financial records, reports, and analyses.

 

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Develop and manage annual budgets in collaboration with senior leadership and program managers.
  • Monitor financial performance against budgets and provide insightful analysis to support decision-making.

 

Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for the Board of Directors and senior management.
  • Ensure compliance with grant reporting requirements and prepare financial reports for funders.

 

Internal Controls and Compliance:

  • Establish and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard organizational assets and ensure accuracy of financial data.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, accounting principles, and non-profit financial standards.

 

Audit and Tax:

  • Coordinate and support annual audits and tax filings, including preparation of necessary documentation.
  • Address audit findings and implement recommendations for improvement.

 

Team Leadership:

  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Provide training and support to staff on financial procedures and policies.

 

Financial Strategy:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of financial strategies to support organizational goals and sustainability.
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting and financial management experience, with at least 3 years in a non-profit organization.
  • Strong knowledge of non-profit accounting principles, financial reporting, and compliance requirements.
  • Cash Forecasting and Treasury Management experience.
  • Familiarity/Proficiency using MIP Accounting Software preferred, but not a requirement
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks,) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional customer-service attitude, and ability to manage multiple complex timelines.
  • Team Management experience, including management of remote staff.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift-up to 15 pounds at times.
